To the Rutland School Community:
This morning, school administration was alerted by students of a hunting rifle seen in a vehicle parked in the student parking lot. This information was immediately passed on to Rutland City Police who responded and began an investigation. Police confiscated an unloaded, single-shot hunting rifle. Their investigation determined that there was no threat to students or staff.
In the meantime, we want to emphasize that while this incident turned out to be an error in judgement, we appreciate the vigilance and the responsibility of our students in reporting a safety concern to our school staff. We use the phrase “See something; say something.” We depend upon students and families to collaborate with school staff in building a safe learning environment.
If you have questions or comments, please feel free to call Principal Bill Olsen.
