Juniors and Seniors: If you have not applied for a parking permit for the student parking lot, applications are only going to be accepted through Wednesday, November 29th, 2017


Rutland High School Howe Center Campus is collecting donations for the Rutland County Humane Society starting now until December 15th. There are boxes in both Guidance and the Main office for your donations.  Lists of items are posted around school or stop into one of the offices for the list. Thank you in advance for supporting this project.


News from  Family and Consumer Sciences: Look at the My Plate Posters in the cafeteria. These were made by 1st quarter students in Real Meals I. Also, check out the “Sugar Shockers”  nutrition information in the attendance hallway.  Watch what you drink!

RISE (Rutland Ishydoria Student Exchange) will have an informational meeting during FLEX on Monday the 27th in RED 29! Come learn about this amazing opportunity to travel to Japan!


On Tuesday, November 28 during FLEX a panel from Rutland Young Professionals will be here to present to students about working and living in Rutland.  If you are interested in this RED talk please see your homeroom advisor to be scheduled into Guidance RYP.


Are you interested in having the best experience in your life this summer?  Do you have a sense of adventure and desire for international travel?   Today,  Tuesday, 11/21, a representative from the Experiment in International Living will be here to provide information workshops on their exciting travel programs for students.  At the session, you will learn about their philosophy of travel, as well as the nuts and bolts of their programs.  You will hear firsthand accounts of RHS students who have participated in the past.  Finally, you will learn how to apply to the program as well as access scholarship and financial aid resources.  If you are interested, please come to Mr. Eisenman’s flex on Tuesday, 11/21 in Red 22.  If you have any questions, please see him.


On Friday December 1st the Student Senate will be hosting a Blood Drive from 9 AM – 2 PM.  If you are 16 or older and in good health, please consider becoming a donor.  Appointments can be scheduled during lunch or see Mr. Aday or Mrs. Haskell.  Give the Gift of Life!


Attention!  The Class of 2020 is holding a Little Caesar’s fundraiser.  Orders are due Monday November 27.  Sell 10 items and get a free $5.00 gift card.  Please support the class, see an officer for details and an order pamphlet!


Raider Hats are being sold from NOW TO NOVEMBER 28th SO ACT FAST, AND ORDER NOW to support the Class of 2019, and show off your raider spirit!  Baseball Hats come in 2 different color options, and are being sold for $15.00

There will be a meeting on Encore Meeting  Monday Nov.27. This meeting is mandatory for everyone who is planning to attend the New Hampshire and/or the Northeastern festivals. We will begin planning for the regional one act festival.

There are seats available for The Little Mermaid at Northern Stage. You must be a member of Encore or in one of the music groups to be eligible to attend. Sign up on Mrs. Archer’s door. All money must be in by Monday Nov.27.

SENIORS AND JUNIORS:  Do You Want to Win a Car?

The Drive 4 Excellence contest sponsored by Burlington Hyundai & Subaru is currently OPEN!

Online registration can be located at www.burlingtoncars.com.  Deadline to register and to submit your report card is April 30, 2018.  After this date, 75 finalists will be selected and notified by May 5, 2018.  If you are one of the finalists you must be present to win either a pre-selected 2018 Subaru Impreza or 2018 Hyundai Elantra.  Further details can be found on the website as well as in the Guidance Office.  


RE: Castleton Decision Day – Thursday, Dec. 7.


For seniors who applied and are on the Guidance Department’s list of students for the Decision Day, Mrs. Carpenter will be preparing your appointments to meet with one of the CSU’s Admissions Team for December 7.  Appointment times will be sent to you via your school email as well as paging you to the Guidance Office.  These appointment notices will be distributed after the Thanksgiving Break.


Stop by the Guidance Office and pick up a few pamphlets that the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation has provided.   The 2018-2019 Grant Application pamphlet, Financial Aid as well as My Educational Loans pamphlets.  These can also be viewed online at www.vsac.org


VSAC’s 2018-2019 SCHOLARSHIP BOOKLET has arrived in the Guidance Office.  Seniors, stop by and pick one up.  Deadline for ALL VSAC-assisted scholarships is February 16, 2018



Seniors:  The Elks National Foundation sponsors several scholarships nationally and locally.  Check out this website:    enf.elks.org/mvs for complete details.   This is an online application process which is open now and ends on November 27, 2017.  This information was also sent to all seniors via your school email account.  Copies of this information is also available in the Guidance Office.


Attention Student Athletes:
Semper Fidelis All-American Program:
Semper Fidelis All-Americans will be invited to attend Battles Won Academy in Washington, D.C.  July 2018 where they’ll get a chance to win a scholarship for college, network with other elite student-athletes, go on a behind-the-scenes tour of our nation’s capital and hear from several inspirational speakers and industry professionals. We are looking for both male and female candidates who are juniors, have a 3.5 GPA or higher, are active in the community, play a competitive sport and hold either a student or community leadership position.  Applications are due January 31, 2018

Student athletes who fit the description of a Semper Fidelis All-American can complete their application at https://sfaap.marines.com/. Please note the application is only a single page and should take no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete. There is no limit on the number of students who can apply or be nominated.

During the Inaugural Battles Won Academy, students participated in the Fit Olympics at Under Armour’s World Headquarters, received a private tour at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, VA, had a scavenger hunt throughout the National Mall and attended a Baltimore Oriole’s game where they had a meet-and-greet with Cal Ripken Jr. They also heard from guest speakers such as Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers, Carli Lloyd of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, World Champion Wrestler Adeline Gray, in addition to our banquet host, Sage Steele of ESPN.
