HOLA RHS!!!   Each day for a month- Rutland High School will be celebrating  Hispanic Heritage Month by giving you many interesting FACTS about Hispanic Culture

1)Costa Rica has not had an army since it was abolished in 1949.

2)The 2010-2015 Uruguayan President, Jose Mujica, was considered the poorest president. He donated 90 percent of his income to charity and was uninterested in wearing expensive clothing or driving a large car.

3)Colombia produces about 90 percent of the world’s total production of emerald gemstones.


The Howe Center Campus is currently accepting applications for the second semester of the 2017-2018 school year. Please see your guidance counselor to discuss applying.  Application deadline is: December 1st. For more information about the Howe Center, please visit the following website:


Attention Parents:  Parent Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 19th (afternoon & evening) and Friday, October 20th (morning). Conferences last 10 minutes with each teacher. The scheduling window for conferences will be open from Saturday, October 7th until Tuesday, October 17th at midnight.  Instructions have been emailed separately.

The 5:00 bus running from the high school is for students participating in EPIC programs ONLY.  You may not ride the bus if you are after school for other activities. You will be asked to exit the bus if you are not participating in EPIC.  


Message from the Cafeteria:  All carryover eligibility from the 2016-2017 school year has now expired. Anyone who has not received an eligibility letter for the 2017-2018 school year will need to bring money to pay for school meals. If you have questions about your eligibility, please see Mrs. Flanders in the cafeteria or Mrs. Moore in the Support Services office. Free and Reduced applications can be turned in anytime during the school year. They are available in Guidance, Support Services or the Main Office. *If a sibling has eligibility in a different school district, please submit a copy of that acceptance or a new application to RHS.


NHS will tutoring students during Flex in English, Math, Science, History, and World Language. Tutoring will take place Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Teachers, please sign students up for Red 17



The RHS Malestroms will meet in the Choral Room on Thursdays at 3:15.  All boys who want to sing are welcome to join the Malestroms.



-GSA will meet on Thursday October 12 at 7:30 am in room 111.  New members welcome!

-The next meeting of New Neighbors will be on Friday, October 13. We will meet in Red 25. New members are welcome.

-Book club meets Thursdays after school in the library. Stop by the library for a copy of the current book.

-GMTI meetings will be Tuesdays during Flex

-Art Club is offered every Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:30 in Creative Structure.

-Environmental Club meeting Tuesdays at  7:15 a.m. in Lab 1 new members welcome

All Sophomores and Juniors who chose to take and are pre-registered for the PSAT’s, the test is this Wed., Oct. 11.  Please arrive at school for 7:30 and be ready for the test to begin promptly at 8:00am.  You will be directed as to where you will be tested.  Bring with you extra, sharpened pencils and your calculator.  The testing should be completed around 11:30.

Please see the detailed attachment regarding The United States Senate Youth Program with a scholarship due date of Friday, October 13 at 4:00pm –Mrs. C.​


Bernie Sanders is sponsoring a college fair at Castleton University in partnership with the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation on October 14th. This is an opportunity for students and their families to learn about college opportunities right here in Vermont, as well as the financial aid options that may be available. There will even be access to computer labs to learn more about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and assistance with completion.  Please see the attached letter for more information.

Students are asked to get in the habit of checking your school email for messages from the Guidance Department.
