RHS ANNOUNCEMENTS

United States Senate Youth ProgramLetter to High Schools- College Fairs Final (1)  FOR ALL STUDENTS:

 

HOLA RHS!!!   Each day for a month- Rutland High School will be celebrating  Hispanic Heritage Month by giving you many interesting FACTS about Hispanic Culture
1) The most common Spanish dialect taught in the U.S. is standard Latin American. It is sometimes called “Highland” Spanish since it is generally spoken in the mountainous areas of Latin America.
2) A majority of Hispanic adults (55%) say they are catholic.
3) Guinea Equatorial is Africa’s only Spanish speaking country.

 

Attention Freshmen!  The offices of Secretary, Treasurer & Senator are still open.  Petitions are available in the Main Office and will be accepted until Friday October 13th.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Haskell in White 15 or Mr. Aday in Red 15.

 

ATTENTION:
The 5:00 bus running from the high school is for students participating in EPIC programs ONLY.  You may not ride the bus if you are after school for other activities. You will be asked to exit the bus if you are not participating in EPIC.  

Message from the Cafeteria:  All carryover eligibility from the 2016-2017 school year has now expired. Anyone who has not received an eligibility letter for the 2017-2018 school year will need to bring money to pay for school meals. If you have questions about your eligibility, please see Mrs. Flanders in the cafeteria or Mrs. Moore in the Support Services office. Free and Reduced applications can be turned in anytime during the school year. They are available in Guidance, Support Services or the Main Office. *If a sibling has eligibility in a different school district, please submit a copy of that acceptance or a new application to RHS.

 

NHS will tutoring students during Flex in English, Math, Science, History, and World Language. Tutoring will take place Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Teachers, please sign students up for Red 17

 

Students – Please remember to check your email daily.  Teachers and counselors will be using email accounts even more than last year to communicate with you.  It is vitally important that you check email daily!

 

FINE ARTS:

The RHS Malestroms will meet in the Choral Room on Thursdays at 3:15.  All boys who want to sing are welcome to join the Malestroms.

 

CLUBS:

-3D Vermont has been rescheduled to Friday October 6th during FLEX in White 17.

-Book club meets Thursdays after school in the library. Stop by the library for a copy of the current book.

-GMTI meetings will be Tuesdays during Flex

-Art Club is offered every Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:30 in Creative Structure.

-Environmental Club meeting Tuesdays at  7:15 a.m. in Lab 1 new members welcome

 

ATHLETICS:

Fall Sports Guides are available outside in the athletic office

 

EPIC:

EPIC FUN!
It is time for some EPIC Fall Fun!
Take a trip on Thursday, October 5, to explore the corn maze. Transportation is provided and entrance is free.  
Stay tuned, on October 11 we will go apple picking.  
Meet in the cafeteria at 3:20.

 

There will be No EPIC Fitness this Thursday, 10/5, See everyone Friday – Ms. Filskov

GUIDANCE:

 

Juniors and Seniors:
Please see the detailed attachment regarding The United States Senate Youth Program with a scholarship due date of Friday, October 13 at 4:00pm –Mrs. C.​

 

Juniors – If you would like to take the PSAT (Pre-SAT) you can take it on October 11th at RHS from 7:45-11:30am.  The cost is $25.00.  We have a limited number of tests available.  They will be available on a first come, first serve basis.   Please bring cash or check to Mrs. Carpenter.   She will give you a practice book and reserve a test for you.  
Due to the fact that we need to hold a pre-registration session on October 6th during FLEX,  we will stop selling books on October 5th.  No exceptions.  All students must be pre registered prior to taking the test.

Bernie Sanders is sponsoring a college fair at Castleton University in partnership with the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation on October 14th. This is an opportunity for students and their families to learn about college opportunities right here in Vermont, as well as the financial aid options that may be available. There will even be access to computer labs to learn more about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and assistance with completion.  Please see the attached letter for more information.

Students who are preparing for the next round of SAT and ACT Tests, the Guidance Department has received the 2017-2018 practice booklets.  Stop by the Guidance Office and pick up a copy.

Students are asked to get in the habit of checking your school email for messages from the Guidance Department.
