National Model of a Professional Learning Community at Work
Recently, the national PLC Review Committee named Rutland High School a National Model of a Professional Learning Community at Work. A Professional Learning Community (PLC) is “a collaboration of teachers, administrators, parents, and students who work together to seek out best practices, test them in the classroom, continuously improve processes, and focus on results.” Rick DuFour, 2002. Rutland High School staff have committed to a collaborative process of regularly meeting in grade-level teams to review student performance data for the purpose of identifying areas of weakness, sharing strategies, and intervening by adjusting instruction, curriculum, and assessment in order to ensure that students are successful. Our school has been added to the “AllThingsPLC” website as a resource for other schools seeking to improve student achievement.
