In a recent collaboration between the RHS Math and Phys Ed Departments, algebra students collected real-life data with the aid of heart rate monitors worn on their chests and wrists as they ran throughout the high school. After gathering their own individual data, students then returned to the classrooms to estimate linear relationships between elapsed time and their heart rates while exercising. The interdisciplinary experience afforded students a very real example of how many things in life can follow a linear pattern.
