Classroom Spotlight: RHS Encore Theater

The Rutland High School’s Encore Theater is a highly talented group of devoted students and staff that works together to create inspiring, funny, and thought-provoking dramas. In addition to impressive acting, members of Encore also design their own custom sets, as well as running lighting and music.
After observing the production of Encore’s latest one act play, Tracks, it is clear just how talented and involved this group truly is. All of the members of Encore put forth their full effort into making the best possible productions, and they are supportive, encouraging, and caring toward each other along the way. Stage technician Sarah Porch describes Encore by saying “It’s just like a big family. Everyone gets along extremely well, and we’re all there to have fun, not judge each other.”
This year, Tracks made it past the Regional One Act Festival and onto the state-wide festival that was held on March 26 and 27 at Randolph Union High School with other Vermont finalists. The cast’s performance left a real impression on the audience, and several of the Encore members were awarded for outstanding achievements, including Connor Ritter, Hana Mace, Shelby Zimmerman, and Nick McKelvie. “I really enjoyed working with everyone in the cast,” co-stage manager Garth Vest said, “and I thought each of them had very powerful individual performances.”
Earlier this year, Encore also put on a rendition of The Twilight Zone, and this spring, the group will be presenting The Outsiders. If anyone is interesting in joining Encore, viewing productions, or learning more about drama, find Cathy Archer, the head of Encore, with your questions ready!
